Introduction of Miyagi International Association
The Miyagi International Association (MIA) strives to promote international exchange and cooperation among the citizens of Miyagi Prefecture and to open up Miyagi to the world. To achieve these goals, MIA engages in the collection and distribution of information related to international activities and offers support and promotion to Miyagi citizens that are internationally active.

- Foundation of the Miyagi Overseas Association
- August, 1987
- Reorganization of the Miyagi Overseas Association to the Miyagi International Association
- October, 1989
- Opening of International Exchange Corner (seminar room, exchange lounge, library)
- January, 1990
- Appointed as a Recognized Local International Exchange Association by the Ministry of Home Affairs (currently the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC))
